The molecular environment of nuclei detectable by MR determines noticeable shifts in their resonance frequency. This information can be used to probe metabolic information of the heart under different conditions. Also, the chemical composition of fatty components deposited in vascular walls during progression of atherosclerosis becomes detectable when resolving chemical shifts using Spectroscopy. Research efforts of the group aim at robust cardiac spectroscopy employing advanced navigation techniques to suppress respiratory motion effects. Imaging based, ultra-fast spectroscopic imaging using Linear response equilibrium states constitutes another important area of activity. Also, reduced data acquisition schemes are explored to enable high-resolution, high-speed metabolic imaging in conjunction with hyperpolarization methods.
